dAVID T. CRUM

assistant professor of history

I’m married to my wife, Ailene, and we have seven children. We live in the woods of northern Maine. I currently serve as an Assistant Professor of History at Truett-McConnell University. I have worked in higher education since 2013. My research interests include the history of warfare and Christianity. My publications often appear in the Scottish Reformation Society, Florida Baptist Historical Society, The Aquila Report, and Right Side Broadcasting Network.

I'm particularly interested in the works of George W. Truett and Loraine Boettner. My studies also frequently include Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson and Oliver Cromwell. Theologically, my interests center on providence, God's sovereignty, and their connection to history.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, I’m also a proud American. I value the Christian heritage of my ancestors, who were original patriots. I’m an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. My ancestors have served in the U.S. military since its founding, proudly serving in the American Revolution, War of 1812, Civil War, World War I, and World War II.

I served in law enforcement for five years, including three years with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Joe Arpaio. I continue to support our first responders and the thin blue line.

Outside of history and genealogical research, I enjoy reading, especially the voices of the past. Some of my favorite authors include Jean-Henri Merle d'Aubigné, William S. Plumer, J.C. Ryle, Arthur Pink, and John Flavel. I also admire the work of modern author Gerald Bray. In the spring, you will find me planting trees on my land and enjoying the beauty of northern Maine.
